A Smart Guide To Buying Business Shirts Online

Wed, 28 Jul 10

Buying business shirts is second nature for the shirt connoisseur. It’s not rocket science, but some may feel out of their element visiting stores to buy a product they’re not familiar with. Sometimes shopping in the privacy of your own home seems the more attractive option. Buying online isn’t for everyone, but with some easy to follow guidelines these tips will be useful for many, from the shirting professional to the occasional shirt wearer.

Check the website’s credibility

Safety first! When buying online it’s always best to look for a physical address and phone number. Make sure payments are secure, look at the address bar for "https://”, or read the security policy and look for a high strength Secure Sockets Layer (SSL). If you are referred to by a friend who has already purchased, then there shouldn’t be anything to worry about.

Get the fit right

Check the sizing. Most clothing retailers provide a size chart. Sizing varies from each brand so it’s best to match your measurements to theirs for better accuracy. Whether you’re buying shirts for a business or formal setting; the fit needs to flatter your figure. A slim fit or fitted look is always the best option for men and women. If you prefer a classic fit, opt for a custom-made or made to order service to achieve the right look.

Check the colour by description

Colour is usually the primary feature customers are looking for.  Make sure you check the product description properly. Garment colours can look different depending on the quality of photography online and particularly the screen resolution which can vary with every computer.

Look at the Finishing’s

This is the fun part! Some shirting retailers have a wide range of finishes. The collar and cuff are the most important. If you want to show off your cufflinks make sure it has French cuffs. If not, then go for a button cuff of some sort. The collars can range from a classic/cutaway, to a large flamboyant one or a formal wing-tip or mandarin collar.

Looking for something different?  Why not go for a unique collar and cuff contrast. If you really want to make an impact get a contrasting button placket or even hide your buttons with a concealed placket. Contrasts can add a hint of individualism or scream attention with bold patterns and bright colours.

Whatever your finishing touches, be sure that you can see all the different elements of the shirt. Photographs should show you the full body and close ups of the collar and cuffs or any other outstanding features it may have.

Ask for assistance

Want to know more about a product? Contact the company and have a chat with someone just as you would in stores. Many online services have customer service assistance with friendly staff that can also act as your own personal store assistant. Depending on the company you may find you’ll experience an incredible service that will be extremely helpful and keep you coming back for more of this convenient online shopping.
