After visiting the icy streets of Stockholm and the city of lakes in Vietnam, the final instalment of Shirt Studio’s 2012 Holiday Destinations take you to the most treasured travel spots across the globe. This time.....
Marrakesh - Morocco
If being thrust from your comfort zone and into a completely foreign land is just your travel style, then Marrakesh must be your next holiday destination. The best way to brush up on your cultural knowledge is to head straight to the largest souq (market) in Morocco, Djemaa el Fna. By day, the market is a bustling epicentre of handmade goods, story-telling and acrobatic performances and by night – the square is transformed into a huge outdoor restaurant.
Prague – Czech Republic
The thousand year old city of Prague has been home to a vast array of socio-political movements, from the ancient Roman Empire to Nazi invasion during World War 2 and Communist rule during the Cold War. As well as history, Prague is renowned for its architectural wonders, from Baroque to Neo-Classical, Renaissance to Gothic. When visiting the city be sure to balance sightseeing with a trip to a local beer garden, as Prague beer is noted as one of the world’s best brews. Beer aside, be sure to visit the Museum of Decorative Arts, the Prague Zoo and the Astronomical clock (as seen in Kanye West’s film clip for Diamonds from Sierra Leone).
Queenstown - New Zealand
For those faint of heart – it’s probably best to bypass the New Zealand adrenaline capital on your next holiday. Queenstown is a lakeside home to bungee jumping, jet boating, white water rafting, skydiving, hang gliding and skiing, set amidst the breathtaking mountain scenery. Another travel drawcard is New Zealand’s emphasis on sustainable tourism, which only adds to the experience of touring the treasures of nature.
Florence – Italy
In Renaissance Italy, the city of Florence was a bustling business capital, watched over by the rich and powerful – such as the Medici family, a clan who supported the rise of artists such as Michelangelo. As well as business and the arts, the Italian metropolis is home to fashion houses Gucci and Ferragamo and a strip of fine dining – allowing visitors to indulge their senses in Florentine style.
Tokyo – Japan
After the devastating earthquake and tsunami early last year, the resilient nation is welcoming travellers back into the cities with open arms. The technologic centrepiece of Japan is Tokyo, home to ancient temples, cutting edge fashion districts, glistening shopping malls and purveyors of fine cuisine.
