What To Wear To A Job Interview

Fri, 3 Feb 12

One excruciatingly long elevator ride, a few handshakes and a shortlist of questions – that’s all that stands in the way of your next dream job.

But first, what are you going to wear?

Although your communication style, professional conduct and personability play a vital role in the selection process, you are also being judged, often quite harshly; on what you are wearing. Shirt Studio has compiled a list of interview tips, sure to edge you closer to getting the keys to your new office. Read on and find out the best ways to impress your future employer:

Research. It is essential that you put a great deal of thought into your interview outfit, by understanding the company’s corporate culture and dress code. Even if you think that jeans or casual would fit the normal workplace attire, it is a compliment to your interviewer to wear a suit or business clothes.

Choose comfort. A good way to manage pre-interview stress levels is choosing to wear clean, fresh and comfortable clothing. There’s a noticeable difference between well-fitted and skin tight and besides - you really don’t want to split your pants up the seam or burst a button as you sit down for an interview. Wash and press your favourite fitted business shirt well ahead of time and make sure that your shoes are clean and polished (employers notice the finer details).

Calculate risks. There is a time and a place for being conservative and a job interview is one of them. Stick to block colours, quality fabrics and modest designs that won’t bring any unwanted attention to your appearance.

Be confident. Finally, don’t spend a great deal of time buying new clothes or stressing over outfit decisions. The best interview outfit is simple, smart and co-ordinated – allowing the interviewer to concentrate on your experience and suitability to the job.
