Case Study

The Client

Convict Motorcycles produces hand-made Australian motorcycles.  Their niche business brings timeless sophistication and elegance into the motorcycle market.  To this end, Convict Motorcycles had a need to blend its brand into the corporate arena, and does so with an elegant shirt that looks at home in the casual corporate scene.

The Brief

Convict sought a look that was elegant but at the same time had an edge and wasn't too rigid in its definition.  They wanted to move away from the traditional bike scene look and create a unique image for the discerning motorcycle rider.  The design finally selected was created to be worn at conferences and in a social corporate setting where they would be showcasing the Convict brand and their designer machines.

Actions and Outcome

Shirt Studio developed several concepts for Convict Motorcycles that would work in with their image.  The base colour of the shirt was going to be very important.  As the client wanted to move away from a heavily corporate look we needed to find a fabric that was more causal in its style.  This meant that stripes and checks were not going to work as it leaned more towards a traditional corporate look.

We wanted to avoid black as this colour can often be dark in its mood and Convict wanted to portray an edgy, sophisticated approach to motorcycles.  The guiding rule was an importance of differentiating themselves from their competitors and the typical stereotypes about motorcycles riders.

The final result was a light grey shirt which has a slight ribbed pattern through it.  The fabric was of high quality, complimenting the high quality of their product.  To inject some passion into the uniform we used red stitching down the front of the shirt around the buttons.  We then placed the Convict Motorcycle logo in two prominent locations.  First, we placed  a small logo on the front of the shirt and then repeated the logo on the back of the shirt just below the collar.  The logos consisted of Convict's abbreviated arrow theme, but also included the company logo on the yoke of the shirt.

Testimonial

"We were extremely pleased with both the enthusiasm of the Shirt Studio team, and the quality of the finished product. The shirts clearly separate Convict's image from the stereotypes of motorcycles and are a solid representation of the Convict brand."
